Collibra release types

Collibra continuously releases new versions to improve the platform. We use different types of releases:

Tip If you have a Commercial environment, you can subscribe to in-app notifications about product and maintenance updates, by enabling maintenance announcements on your profile page.

What?
New and enhanced product functionality and capabilities, as well as product fixes. Release notes and documentation are available the Friday before the pre-production deployments. Monthly releases allow us to deliver ever-increasing value via continual innovation and rapid, agile development.

You may be required to update Jobservers or Edge or Collibra Cloud sites. During the upgrade, there will be 20 minutes of downtime interrupting running processes such as workflow tasks, synchronizing data sources and backup and restore.

How often?
Every month, except December.

When?
Sundays between 13:00 - 17:00 UTC.

Which environments?
First your pre-production environments, three weeks later your production environments.

What?
New and enhanced product functionality and capabilities, as well as product fixes, and updates to CPSH and Edge. Release notes and documentation are available the Friday before the pre-production deployment. These releases allow us to deliver exciting innovations and a focused release experience with greater public emphasis, events, and more.

You may be required to update Jobservers or Edge or Collibra Cloud sites. During the upgrade, there will be 20 minutes of downtime interrupting running processes such as workflow tasks, synchronizing data sources and backup and restore.

How often?
March, June, and October.

When?
Sundays between 13:00 - 17:00 UTC.

Which environments?
First your pre-production environments, three weeks later your production environments.

What?
Critical and high-priority fixes and updates to services. Weekly patches and as-needed hotfixes allow us to regularly deliver fixes, so you always have the best, most up-to-date Collibra experience.
Release notes
are available at least one business day before the deployment. For an emergency fix, you will receive an in-app notification at the latest at 12:00 UTC of the business day before the deployment.

  • If it is an on-demand update, you need to request an update by submitting a Cloud Operations request.
  • If it is an automatic update, and it impacts peripheral products such as Jobserver or Edge or Collibra Cloud sites, you may need to take further action, such as update Edge or Collibra Cloud sites.

During the upgrade, there will be 20 minutes of downtime interrupting running processes such as workflow tasks, synchronizing data sources and backup and restore.

How often?
Patches and hotfixes can occur weekly if they are needed. They are applied to your pre-production and production environment. This ensures parity between environments and supports a seamless use of features, such as backup and restore.

When?

  • Patch releases: Available on-demand on weekdays between 13:00 - 17:00 UTC.
  • Hotfixes: Deployed as needed.

Which environments?
Pre-production and production environments are upgraded simultaneously for both on-demand and automatic updates.

Additional release types

Collibra products, such as Edge, Data Lineage, Collibra AI, Workflow Designer, and Infrastructure updates can release updates on a different cadence to the main Collibra Platform release schedule.

What?
Feature enhancements and fixes to Edge or Collibra Cloud site infrastructure and capabilities. Release notes and documentation are available the Friday before weekly update deployments and two weeks before our March, June, and October releases.

  • If you use Edge manual upgrades, the update is available as soon as it is ready for you to download and deploy.
  • If you update Edge automatically, you don't need to do anything.

During the upgrade, there will be 20 minutes of downtime interrupting running processes such as running Edge jobs.

How often?
Updates can occur weekly if there are fixes or improvements ready to roll out. However, there may be weeks without Edge updates. We also have Edge releases in March, June, and October to coincide with the Collibra Platform releases for these months.

When?
Sundays between 12:00 (noon) - 17:00 UTC.

Which environments?
Pre-production and production environments.

Important release terms

  • End of Life: When a product or feature reaches End of Life, it means it will be discontinued at a specified time. At that time, Collibra will only provide support, bug fixes, and security updates for supported versions or replacements. Collibra provides End of Life announcements well in advance to ensure you have enough time to make any necessary preparations, migrations, or changes. End of Life announcements are published both in the release notes and announcements pages.
  • Mandatory upgrade: An update to a Collibra product, such as Collibra Platform or Edge, that must be applied to your environment. Mandatory upgrades may include critical product or security updates. To determine if an upgrade is mandatory, review the release notes and announcements for the specific release.
  • Pre-production environment: A Collibra Platform typically used to test new features with test data.
  • Production environment: The Collibra Platform where you govern your active data.
